Before the returning to Westminster for the September Parliamentary session, Jack welcomed the Minister for Defence Procurement Harriett Baldwin MP to Filton to visit some businesses that make up our region’s world renowned defence and aerospace industry. During the trip, Jack wanted to show the Government how the first class skills base that we have locally makes the area the ideal location for the next generation of defence contracts.
In the morning they visited MBDA to hear about their latest plans and meet with executives to learn about their plans for operations globally and within Europe after we leave the European Union. Jack was pleased to hear that MBDA will continue to work with their business partners and customers across the world with no negative effect to their work in Filton. He believes we will only become a more attractive base for industry once we have left the European Union and it is heartening to see a vote of confidence from multinational companies.
During their lunch break Jack had the opportunity to talk to workers and apprentices about their experiences working at MBDA. Having worked with the All Party Parliamentary Group for Apprenticeships, Jack thought it was fantastic to see MBDA offering differing pathways within their company for workers with varying levels of qualifications helping to increase social mobility.
