Filton and Bradley Stoke MP Jack Lopresti visited residents at Home Farm Way in Easter Compton last Friday to help celebrate fifty years of Abbeyfield Bristol & Keynsham Society.
The Easter Compton site is one of five properties owned by Abbeyfield in the region, designed for people over the age of 65. Home to a thriving community of 13 people, Jack Lopresti MP was given a tour of the property and its beautiful gardens by some of the staff and residents of Home Farm Way, while listening to their views and opinions on local affairs.
Mr Lopresti also met with Abbeyfield Bristol and Keynsham's Chief Executive Frances Stretton to discuss the importance of retired people in the local community and the organisation's growth plans in line with this and its fiftieth birthday celebrations.
"With people aged 65 plus the fastest growing population, residents at Home Farm Way represent an important demographic of the local constituency, so we were delighted to welcome Mr Lopresti MP as our guest' said Frances Stretton.
"In respect of the fact that more and more people are retiring fit & well in their mid-to -late 60s, demand for the type of living that we offer is higher than ever. Many people at this stage in their life don't want or need care home type accommodation and aren't even thinking about it. However, they do want the companionship and community that comes with living in an environment alongside people of their own age. Plus the reassurance of friendly help and support if and when they do want it," she added.
Mr Lopresti added 'it was really nice to visit the home in Easter Compton on Friday. I was given a really warm welcome, with cake!, from the residents. The home is in lovely surroundings, with beautiful gardens and a wonderful atmosphere and friendly and caring staff. Please invite me again!'
