Last week Jack visited the Compass Project in Staple Hill to get some furniture for his office and to catch up on the work that this amazing social action programme has been doing in our community.
Compass Project operates two second hand stores and restoration workshops (the second being on Gloucester Road) staffed entirely by people with a history of drug and/or alcohol dependency who have a criminal record. All their staff are volunteers and do not get paid for their work, but develop their skills and have access to an excellent support network in the hope to aid their recovery from addiction and to stop them re-offending.
"Rehabilitation is an important part of our justice system and too often those who have been convicted originally for a minor offence fall through the cracks when re-entering society, so become repeat offenders. This is why organisations like Compass Project are essential to help those convicted to become productive members of society once they have served their sentence." said Jack, "I am sure I will back to visit the team at Compass Project soon to be updated on their amazing work and to browse their great selection of restored furniture."
