FIGHT FOR FRENCHAY'S FACILITIES

8 July 2009

Thanks to the Labour Government Frenchay hospital will be downgraded losing its Accident & Emergency department and over 500 beds.

The decision to downgrade
Frenchay was
taken four years ago and has since received the full support of the Labour Government and Labour locally.

Despite the opposition of over 50,000 people locally, including local Conservatives and Prospective MP Jack Lopresti, Labour has pressed ahead with the plans.

Prospective MP Jack Lopresti comments, “Since the original decision to downgrade Frenchay Labour has announced plans for a private hospital taking NHS patients at Emersons Green – patients which could have used Frenchay.

They have also announced plans for 33,000 new houses – bringing thousands of new people into Frenchay’s already large catchment area. I personally believe the case for more facilities at Frenchay has never been stronger and yet it has been ignored by the Labour Government.

It is clear that whilst Labour remains in Government Frenchay hospital will face a very bleak future. I will continue to campaign to ensure the case for Frenchay is heard at the highest levels.”
