SUCCESS: RING ROAD 2+ LANE TO CHANGE
8 July 2009Your local Conservative councillors have achieved success in changing the unpopular 2+ Lane on the Ring Road.
Following repeated calls from your local councillors, the Council have completed a thorough review of the controversial 2+ lane. The Council’s transport chief is proposing to shorten the 2+ lane, the hours that it operates and allowing more vehicles to use it, including HGVs.
Local Downend Councillor Janet Biggin said “We promised local residents that we would push the Council to carry out a thorough review of the 2+ lane after repeated complaints from residents that so much of the Ring Road was restricted.
“Shortening the 2+ lane, reducing the hours and allowing more vehicles to use it will free up capacity in the general-use lane and so improve journey times for more of our residents. Shifting polluting HGVs over into the 2+ lane will improve local air quality because they won’t be caught up in stationary traffic.”
